the tree is trimmed.

Photobucket
one tree trimmed and one more to go. we put one in the family room and then put up one in the playroom with kid-friendly (read: non-breakable) ornaments so they can touch to their heart's delight. it didn't go quite as quietly as planned---it proved to be a little more overwhelming than anticipated for my oldest who struggles with sensory issues. hopefully today's experience is better {read: completed without meltdowns}.

it's always fun seeing how excited they get when they rediscover the ornaments and talk about where they came from and what is special about them. they are often gifted ornaments each year and we try to add a new one for each of them each year that represents something close to them. i keep telling myself that i'm going to photograph each one and tell the story behind it.

maybe that'll be my project this year. once it's done this year, it will be easy to keep it up each year hereafter.

  3. I haven't put my tree up yet. Each ornament on the tree holds a memory for me. I even have some ornaments from my parents 1st Christmas (59 years ago), and a couple or my grandparents.
    Congrats Patty.

  5. I loved trimming the tree as a kid, it was so much fun to see all the decorations again - I put up my tree last weekend, and almost fell over with the amount of stuff I had to put in the tree.... now I know why my mom dreaded having to trim the tree - takes forever *lol* but like everything I wanted my daughter to enjoy the lights and colors (she's 8 months).

    Thanks again for sharing.

  9. We get sensory overload here too. We have a good 15 minutes every year before I am all alone in the decorating Christmas business. I still really love it all though. Thanks for sharing your family moments with us.

  12. Meltdowns-lol
I remember when I was a kid every year one of the 5 of us melted down over something while decorating the tree, mostly it was "she put mine on the tree' OR "he took the spot I was gonna use"...I have not that about that in a bit...memories....

  15. How fun to have two trees. We do one and I used to look forward to the day I could do it all matching and classy. I have since decided I love all the handmade and gift ornaments and that we have some colored, some white lights. Some twinkle, some flash & some do nothing :)
I too want to do an ornament album. I saw one done last year and it was AWESOME!

  17. What a great idea letting the kids have their own tree and unbreakable
ornaments. It's no fun for kids to just..."look at the tree". Don't forget to date your ornaments with a permanent marker. I have a ball that I wrote my name on in glitter
when I was a young child 40 years ago!

  19. wonderful memories to scrap, Tania..love your big tree. we only had a small tree to decorate and each year we added some more ornaments so it started to look over crowded. So this year I decided we need a bigger one and now our tree looks like it could use some more..LOL we decorated our tree yesterday and it look wonderful!!

  21. We'd usually have our tree up by now but have a baby shower next Sat. so need the space; kids are disappointed, but it'll be up before they know it. We have tons of ornaments just for them as well; good idea to document & scrap the stories behind them.

  22. Today must have been the day for trees. I got mine almost finished with the help of my great-nephew. I wish I would have thought to write down when and what kid gave me certain ornaments because I have forgotten over the years. Great idea.
