make sweet pages from sour photos
when creating a layout a few nights ago with some Little Yellow Bicycle Baby Safari product, i absolutely couldn't help but reach for these super sweet (to me anyway) photos of emma when she was just 4 months old. none of them are perfect, in fact, 2 of them are so blurry that i wouldn't normally have reached for them to put in my scrapbooks. but truth is....almost every photo of emma as a baby was this way since it was before my digital camera days and i haven't a clue what i'm doing when taking pictures.
but something about them makes them irresistable to me. her petite baby features. those big brown eyes. her slobbery baby lips. her full chipmunk cheeks.
i met a fellow designer and lover of imperfect photos, Sherry Steveson, in Chicago.........and guess what, i have a sour photo to prove it. LOL. she's on the far left there.
i have a few tricks up my sleeve for making sour photos useable.....like turning them to black & white, or printing them smaller. but Sherry? she's written a whole book on the topic of using those sour photos AND making them shine while doing it. so, she has a whole slew of tips and tricks to share for using those oftentimes priceless photos.
what's even better is that she's compiled them together and is ready to share them online in her upcoming class that starts Sept 16.
i'm hoping after taking Sherry's class, i'll know how to make that seemingly "delete-worthy" photo look magical on a layout. we all have sour photos right? don't let those sour photos put a damper on the sweet memories that go along with the photos. so, come on, join me! all who register by Sept 1 will have a chance to win both of Sherry's books: When Life Gives You Lemons and The Scrapbook Embellishment Handbook.
and because i don't want all my photograph effort go to waste, here's some detail shots of the layout that i took over 150 photos of just to narrow down to these 4. and they still don't look right. hrmph! sour photos seems to be my specialty. maybe i should be focusing on katrina's photography class!!
