to this year's third grade spelling bee CHAMPION! help me congrate my sweet, ASHLYN!
all parental props go to the man of the house for rehearsing words and making up sentences to use them in for hours over the last 2 weeks to help her feel confident and prepared.
she definitely earned it!
funny story......at the beginning of the competition, they each had to go up to the microphone and say their name, spell their name, then say their name again, as a way to introduce themselves and to practice the official format of a spelling bee in case they had forgotten.
ashlyn was the last one in a row of 15 children to go up and she walked up to the microphone with a little spring in her step and said........
"Ashlyn. Capital A-s-h-l-y-n. Ashlyn."
and the entire teaching staff erupted into great big huge cheers as she preceeded to turn 15 shades of red. but....she was grinning from ear to ear.
because she was the ONLY kid to say the word "capital" first. and when it comes to the spelling bee, these things are important.
in fact, she won the first grade spelling bee with the word "I", as child after child was eliminated for saying I. I. I. and they were all wrong because they needed to say "I. Capital I. I"
anywho. she was quite proud of herself again this year.
during the bee she had words like, morning, factory, flowers, athlete, taught, crawled, and she won it with....weigh.
the funniest thing is that last year, she got second place by losing first place position with the word crawled. no way she was misspelling that one this year. :)
Congratulations, go Ashlyn!!!
