slowly but surely.

Photobucket
getting back into the "new" normal routine. lots of 10 minute chores, then 20 minute resting going on. 'bout the only way to keep my sanity, get things done, and still rest my back. thanks for all the well wishes and prayers.

kidney foundation is making their way here monday morning, so i'm in simplify mode.

so i started in emma's room this morning. the dresser is now empty of outgrown clothes and in a bag for donation. then moved to ashlyn's room to clean out her top dresser drawer which was a discombobulated mess of anything and everything that didn't have a home.....tights, belts, headbands, headphones, etc.

now i've shifted gears and am currently thinking of a way to make the hall/linen closet a bit more efficient in terms of storage. you know when things are being shoved and cleaned and organized and there still isn't room that it's time to get rid of some stuff. so while i'm thinking i come down to the livingroom, open the laptop and jump on IM to ask doug a few questions. the conversation went like this:

me: are you ever going to use that shaving cream warmer again?
him: ummmm
him: probably not.
him: i don't know.
him: i really do like it.
him: but i use gel now.
me: so, do you want me to keep it on the off chance that you might want to use it?
him: yeah
me: k, great.

a minute goes by.

him: i'm thankful for red bull (he worked overtime yesterday and this morning, been up since 5am)
me: tired, eh?
me: i'm thankful for trashbags.
him: lol

that about sums up my week. focused on getting stuff outta here, room by room, 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there.

so two things i'm looking for a solution for:

1. shoe storage---currently they all stay at the front door where they come off. with this lovely ohio weather we go from sandals to snowboots back to rainboots in a span of 3 days.

2. belts and tights in the girls room. any suggestions other than throwing them in a drawer? that's not working too well for us right now.

and now, i'm outta here to go get ready for work.

  1. Red bull is the best. Don't leave home without it.

  2. I have the same shoe, belt, tight storage as you... so I'll be paying attention to see if anyone offers another solution!! :)

  3. Tania, we had the same shoe issue and purchased this at Ikea http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30034193. It's big enough to sit on while putting shoes on and taking them off and additional shoes(or boots) can be slid under the bottom cubbies for even more storage. We also got the hat rack http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10034194 to coats, scarves, bags, etc... are all put away as well. It really takes up a very small space and totally cleaned up our entry way!

  4. Hmmm, I may have to check out that bench/shoe storage Sue suggested. In the meantime, we store our shoes in a repurposed/rebuilt dollhouse. It works, but isn't the prettiest.

You could fold the girls' belts in half, then half again and put a hair bow-bow [hair tie, rubberband, scrunchie] around it to secure it. You could roll the belts and tights and put them in a small organizer-type box or in a basket.

I have scarves hanging on a hanger in the closet and assume you could the same with the belts or tights.

  5. Oh yeah - was going to tell you, that for my belts, I have them in an over-the-door shoe organizer. One row of it is for belts that I roll up and slide in and can fit 2 or 3 belts per pocket. I keep it in my closet.
