on sunday afternoon, like most other sunday afternoons, doug and emma were napping and ashlyn somehow convinced doug that she didn't need an afternoon rest. happens every sunday. so she stayed up and happily played with her barbies while i worked on writing class materials for that upcoming fabric class.
before long, i noticed it got extra quiet.
so i got up from the computer to hunt down the girl to find out what she was up to. turns out she was ripping through baskets of unfolded laundry looking for the match to her red & white striped sock to complete her ensemble. before long she was getting all frazzled because she couldn't get all of her blonde locks to stay up in her headpiece. in a matter of minutes, i got it fixed up for her and the day was saved.
then i saw her eyes brighten and asked her what she was thinking. she hesitantly asked...."mommy, will you paint my face just like my baby?"
and so we did.
i love these one on one moments that i get to spend with my girl. she's such a different kid when she isn't striving to capture the spotlight instead of having to share with her sister.
